‘Help Nahyan Fight Cancer’
We are delighted with the response we have gotten to our #ArdRiUltra4Nahyan fund-raiser. Ard Rí Community National School have a special interest in supporting Nahyan and the Javed family. Nahyan’s cousin attends Ard Rí and Nahyan will be joining Junior Infants in September. Warrior Nahyan is on all our minds as we move towards our Ultra Marathon event next Friday 4th June.
The event itself is simple enough- Run 5, Nominate 5, Donate 5
- At 8am Darragh will press the button on his GPS watch and start running laps of the 4 rugby pitches
- School staff will run from 8 to 8.30am
- Children can wear their own sports clothes on race day (optional red and black theme- Nahyan’s fav colours) and go straight to class at 9am as usual
- The track will be open for parents to run from 8.50-9.30am (parents responsible for their own Covid safety)
- Parent walkers are meeting at the front steps of the Rugby Club and will walk the SuperValu block from soon after 9am (parents responsible for their own Covid safety)
- From 9.30am each class will join Darragh on the track and children will run their miles. Each class’ miles will be added together to give a class total- an Ultra Marathon per class!!
- Children will receive a medal and a certificate to celebrate their achievement
- Children will receive a plain Dairy Milk bar, a packet of Tayto crisps and a bottle of still water to picnic on the grass
- All going well Darragh’s Ultra run will take 5-6 hours. There will be live updates of everyone’s progress on Twitter throughout race day
- Unfortunately we cannot allow parent spectators on race day
- Children will bring home their medal and certificate. The cert has a QR code linking directly to ‘Help Nahyan Fight Cancer’ on GoFundMe
- When you donate to GoFundMe you receive a receipt by email. On this receipt there is an option to leave comment. Please leave a message of support for Nahyan and use the hashtag #ArdRíUltra4Nahyan so we can track donations
- 375,000 is a massive amount of money. Spread the news of the #ArdRiUltra4Nahyan far and wide and ask family, neighbours and friends to donate whatever they can to help put Nahyan on that plane to NYC!!
We have had some very kind sponsors.
Cathy and Simon from SportsDen.ie have donated custom medals for each child. Paddy Brophy from Funiture_68 has donated a beautiful bespoke mud kitchen which our Parent Association will be raffling and all proceeds will go to ‘Help Nahyan Fight Cancer’. Our wonderful Parent Association have sponsored the decorations and the picnic snacks. Shelley Mercer and Celine Rock are providing bottled water. Go raibh maith agaibh!!
What else is on?

‘Help Nahyan Fight Cancer’
In May 2020 Nahyan Javed was diagnosed with Metastatic Neuroblastoma, a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. Since the diagnosis Nahyan has been through hell and back. Nothing about his journey has been easy. Nahyan has endured chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, surgery, radiation and now he is in the last part of treatment- immunotherapy.
Nahyan’s family and friends need to raise €375,000 so he can access the Bivalent Vaccine trial at MSK Cancer Center, New York. It is the only pediatric tumor vaccine in existence. There is hope- Children from Ireland who have accessed the trials are doing very well.
Ard Rí Community National School have a special interest in supporting Nahyan and the Javed family. Nahyan’s cousin attends Ard Rí and Nahyan will be joining Junior Infants in September.
All the team, the Board of Management with our Chairperson Yemi Adenuga, and our Parent Association got together to discuss a theme for our fundraiser. Aoife Bradley from MyStudio is organising #SouthNorthTagRun for adults and the boys and girls have been smashing their Daily Mile runs so we have decided to host a festival of running for the children called #ArdRíUltra4Nahyan
On Friday 4th June there will be a 1k loop set up on the Rugby Club pitches. Starting at 8am our Principal, Darragh Roe, will begin running laps of the track. Darragh’s target for the day is 50k- an Ultra Marathon. He will not be alone. School staff will run from 8am. Yemi will be running her first 5k and each class will join in and run laps throughout the day. The total distance covered by each class will be added up to create a class score. Children will receive a certificate and a medal, which will encourage families and friends to log on to GoFundMe to make a donation. When you donate to GoFundMe you will receive a receipt to your email. On the receipt there is an option to add a comment. Please leave a message of support and use the hashtag #ArdRiUltra4Nahyan.
